What are foot orthotics?

Orthotics are medical devices which fit inside your shoes to correct and guide the motion of your feet.

How do they work?

Foot orthotics work by changing the pressure experienced by your feet during walking and running. By changing this pressure, orthotics play an important role in treatment of foot, ankle and lower leg problems.

Orthotics can help treat and prevent problems such as:

  •   Painful corns and callus
  •   Bunions and arthritis in the feet
  •   Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  •   Stress fractures in the feet
  •   Knee, hip and lower back pain.

Orthotics also help with:

  •   Pain relief
  •   Improving walking, running and cycling efficiency
  •   Improving weight distribution and posture
  •   Improving shoe fit and comfort
  •   Reducing shock on your feet when walking or running

Custom Prescription Orthotics

These are top of the line orthotics – 100% customized to your foot, lifestyle and particular needs. They are very effective in improving pain and can be easily modified. These orthotics can last up to 10 years and are very robust.

What is involved in getting custom foot orthotics?

Our Podiatrist uses a 3-D digital scanner to capture a detailed image of your foot. We write a prescription of how the orthotics are to be made for your individual needs and this is then sent to our manufacturing lab. Your new orthotics are back at the clinic ready for you to wear within 7 days.

Private health rebates may be applicable to custom orthotics prescribed by a qualified podiatrist (depending if you have podiatry as an extra on your private health cover).

Custom Foot Adjusted (CFA) orthotics

These are a semi-customised orthotic that include many options in terms of materials and padding. Great for kids and adolescents; they are very effective in growing feet. These orthotics can last up to 3-4 years, and are also quite robust.

Prefabricated orthotics

These orthotics are a very cost effective solution for a number of foot and lower leg problems. Great for all-day comfort; they provide much better support than ‘innersoles’ commonly purchased in the chemist. The lifespan of these orthotics can be anywhere between 6 months to 2 years.
